Santa Claus Is Comin’ is a dazzling, family-friendly musical celebration by Nygel D. Robinson and Ken-Matt Martin, the powerhouse performer and co-creator of our breakout hit Mexodus. Packed with heart and groove, this spirited show features classic holiday favorites, reimagined with the unmistakable sound of Motown legends—from The Supremes to The Jackson 5.

Whether you’re bringing kids, coworkers, grandparents, or that one cousin who lives for a dance break—this is the holiday party you don’t want to miss.

What is a Preview?

Previews are an essential part of the theater-making process that allow directors and playwrights to see their plays with audiences for the first time and identify areas for adjustment. These special performances allow you to get a first look at the play and be a part of each shows’ creative journey before it opens officially.

MELODY A BETTS was last seen as Aunt Em/Evillene in the Broadway production of The Wiz. Catrina Brenae is a proud Baltimore native and singer-actor whose work spans stage, screen, and live entertainment. Some recent credits include TINA – The Tina Turner Musical (2nd National Tour, Ensemble/Bodacious Lady; u/s Zelma Bullock, u/s Gran Georgeanna) and multiple productions with Disney Cruise Line (Tangled the Musical, Twice Charmed, Disney Dreams).
Other notable performances include Dreamgirls (Effie Melody White) and The Christians (Soloist/Ensemble) at Baltimore Center Stage; Kinky Boots (Swing) at Olney Theatre; The Color Purple (Doris/u/s Jarene) at Signature Theatre; Show Way (u/s Auntie–Lil’ Bit) and Mamma Mia! (Rosie) at The Kennedy Center and Virginia Repertory Theatre.

Nygel D. Robinson is an artist based in New York City. Select theaters as a performer include Berkeley Rep, Baltimore Center Stage, Shakespeare Theatre Company, Mosaic Theatre, and Milwaukee Rep. As a writer and composer Nygel’s credits include Mexodus (Berkeley Rep, Baltimore Center Stage, Mosaic Theatre, The Public Theater), Santa Claus is Comin:’ A Motown Chirstmas Revue at Baltimore Center Stage (and is also under commission to write a new original Christmas show), R&J: Fire on the Bayou with Kevin Ramsey which was workshopped at Goodspeed Opera House and The Hartt School, a folk adaptation of Oedipus Rex that was workshopped at the University of Chicago and many more small projects. Nygel’s style is a blend of Hip Hop, R&B, Soul, Folk, and traditional musical theatre. With the art he creates, he aims to make something that is accessible, catchy, innovative, and thought provoking. He’s THRILLED to be back at BCS, one of his artistic homes! As a writer and composer Nygel’s credits include Mexodus (Berkeley Rep, Baltimore Center Stage, and Mosaic Theatre), R&J: Fire on the Bayou with Kevin Ramsey which was workshopped at Goodspeed Opera House and The Hartt School, and many more projects that Nygel plans on spamming the American theatre with. Victor Musoni is an actor, writer, and dancer from Chicago. Ken-Matt Martin has established himself as a preeminent theater director, cultural worker, and producer who has worked with some of the industry’s most formidable artists. Notable directing credits include productions of August Wilson’s Fences and The Piano Lesson (Pyramid Theatre Company), Chicago Premiere of How I Learned What I Learned (Congo Square Theatre Company, Starring Harry Lennix), A Son, Come Home and Brotherhood at Williamstown Theatre Festival, Nia Vardalos’ adaptation of Cheryl Strayed’s Tiny Beautiful Things (Baltimore Center Stage), the world premiere of NANCY (Mosaic Theatre Company), Hello, Dolly! (Arkansas Repertory Theatre, Starring Amber Iman), and the World Premiere musical adaptation of Jason Reynolds’ Long Way Down at Olney Theatre Center and New York’s Apollo Theatre. Martin’s directorial work has been honored with three Cloris Leachman Excellence in Theatre Awards, Michigan’s Oscar Wilde Award for Best Director, and Chicago’s Black Theatre Alliance Award for Outstanding Director. In addition, Ken-Matt has been praised as an innovator in the modern American theater; he created the 20/50 New Play Festival, the Ignite Chicago Festival, Goodman Theatre’s Live @Five Show, and was the co-founder of the Pyramid Theatre Company. A highly sought after administrator, he has served in executive/senior leadership positions at Baltimore Center Stage, Victory Gardens Theatre, Goodman Theatre, Arkansas Repertory Theatre, and Williamstown Theatre Festival. He also produced the world premieres of Mexodus, Oh Happy Day, Selling Kabul, Grand Horizons, In Every Generation, A Human Being of a Sort and produced development workshops of Primary Trust and The Outsiders musical. Martin holds a M.F.A. in directing from Brown University and two undergraduate degrees from Drake University.
