About OUR 2024/25 Season:

About Marilyn Meyerhoff

Our dear friend and Trustee Marilyn Meyerhoff passed away on May 26, 2023. Six decades ago, a bold group of forward-thinking Baltimoreans came together with a powerful shared belief: a great city like Baltimore should have a great resident theater. Marilyn was instrumental in bringing Center Stage to life as one of our earliest and most fervent supporters. She served on the Executive Board of the Women’s Committee in the 60s and 70s, which provided assistance to the theater in our earliest days in important volunteer capacities. Marilyn served on the Board of Trustees from 1970 to 1980, seeing the theater through our move to Calvert Street following the fire in 1974. Marilyn joined the Board of Trustees again in 1990, just in time for the opening of the Head Theater the following year. Upon her retirement as a Trustee in 2004, the Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint her as an Emeritus Trustee. Since then, she made it a priority to stay connected to Baltimore and to Baltimore Center Stage. When President Joe Biden held a CNN Town Hall in the Pearlstone in 2021, she shared how much pride she felt seeing the President “on our stage”.

Marilyn was the height of class, an endless font of style, enthusiasm, and love. When Marilyn loved a performance, she made it known to all who would listen, for she wanted everyone to experience what she got the opportunity to see. She saw theater as a place for people to gather, to enjoy, and to have special experiences together. A frequent guest at Baltimore Center Stage Galas and Society Trips, Marilyn was a sophisticated theatergoer who loved to laugh, with a particular fondness for new and bold talent. She felt a deep responsibility to make a difference and support the communities and organizations she called home, and the people that made them thrive. In honor of her truly outstanding generosity, the Marilyn Meyerhoff Mezzanine was named for Marilyn in 2000, and the Marilyn Meyerhoff Box Office was named for Marilyn in 2017. Upon getting to see the first ticket issued with “Marilyn Meyerhoff Box Office” printed on it, her response was “all I can say is Wow.”

In addition to Baltimore Center Stage, Marilyn was a steadfast supporter of many of Baltimore’s vital institutions, particularly including Johns Hopkins Hospital, Sinai Hospital, the Baltimore Museum of Art, and the American Visionary Art Museum. She also championed Martha’s Vineyard Film Society, Martha’s Vineyard Playhouse, Palm Beach Dramaworks, and Children’s HealthWatch. We offer condolences to Marilyn’s partner Sam Feldman; her children Karen, Tom, and Jack; and the rest of the Meyerhoff family that she treasured so. She will be deeply missed, and we look forward to celebrating Marilyn’s life with her family at a later date.
