New Year, New Name
In case you missed it, we added “Baltimore” to our name. Read all about the update in The Baltimore Sun, the Baltimore Business Journal, and Baltimore Fishbowl.
The White Snake
The Baltimore Sun included The White Snake in “A wintry sampling of music, theater events in Baltimore.” Managing Director Michael Ross acted as co-host of MPT’s Artworks on January 12 and again on January 19. The January 12 episode featured a segment on the original production of The White Snake. And you can read more about the cast and artistic team on Broadway World.
Our Theater’s Transformation
We can’t wait until our grand reopening on March 3. In the meantime, Baltimore STYLE published a feature on our theater renovation in its January/February issue, which included interviews with Cho Benn Holback Architects and Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah.
Dan Rodericks mentioned Baltimore Center Stage as a bright spot in the city (“almost transformational”) in this Baltimore Sun article.
Industry News
Broadway.com included some of our photos from past productions in a “Role Call” video featuring Jefferson Mays (currently starring in The Front Page on Broadway). He cited Aubrey in The Show-Off as his “Role I wish more people had seen…” and Tony Lumpkin in She Stoops to Conquer as his “Role I was sexiest in…” Here’s the video.
Managing Director Michael Ross talked money and white picket fences in this American Theatre magazine article about artist compensation.

The upcoming Birmingham Rep production of Artistic Director Kwame Kwei-Armah’s One Love: The Bob Marley Musical continues to garner attention in the press, including articles in the Curacao Chronicle and Caribbean 360. And, exciting news as the cast was announced for One Love: The Bob Marley Musical, including Mitchell Brunings, who you may remember from our production of Marley, will make his UK stage debut as Bob Marley.
An article in Playbill announced that seven plays will premiere as part of Princeton and Slavery Project—and Kwame is one of the commissioned playwrights. Light City Baltimore announced its schedule, and Kwame will be speaking at the DesignLAB on April 7.
